Montenegro enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long dry summers and short mild winters. No matter what time of year you come from Central Europe to Montenegro, you will get warm. First, you go to the subtropical driving area, and second, in winter, the Mediterranean climate maintains temperature. The average July temperatures in the seaside range are around 28 ° C, but thirty is not an exception here. The sun shines here up to 2500 hours a year, in the summer months over 300 sundials a month. Average winter temperatures are around 9 ° C. The temperature of the sea is very favourable in Montenegro during the summer months – up to 24 ° C.

The climate is slightly continental in the interior of Montenegro. For example, in Podgorica the average January temperature is 5 ° C, in July it is around 27 ° C.

Montenegro also has high karst mountain areas, some up to 1700 meters high. The climate is subalpine, there are cold winters with up to five meters of snow, but the summers are mild. January temperatures range from 3 ° C to -6 ° C, while July temperatures range from 23 ° C to 9 ° C.

The weather is affected by frequent winds:
Bora – northeast, in winter rises waves
Jugo – southeast, causing waves
Maestral – Northwest, invigorates in the warm summer months
Nevera – the western wind, which brings storms, pleasantly cools the air.

The average rainfall is 1400 mm per year on the coast. Above all, however, it is in the winter months.

Clouds are decreasing from northwest to southeast. The average annual cloud rate in the north is 10% higher than in the south, 47%. Often in the summer, cloudless clear days last for up to two months without a break, sometimes in July and August after one cloudy day. The greatest cloudiness is in the spring.

The maximum water precipitation is in November and December, the minimum in July and August. E.g. in Ulcinj 1300 mm of precipitation falls annually, in Herceg-Novi 2000 mm. Summer rains are short but intense. However, the mountains towering above the coast are among the most rainy places in Europe – the average annual water precipitation at Crkvice is 5300 mm. There is no single surface stream in the mountains; precipitation disappears underground – in cracks, holes, scraps, etc.
